Launched in October 2009 “Fairly Scrumptious” is the brainchild of Veronica Harnett. A passionate supporter of the fair trade cause, Veronica has worked as a Traidcraft representative for several years and works hard to promote the work of Traidcraft and other Fairtrade organisations.
Supported by the whole family, and with funding from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Veronica hopes that “Fairly Scrumptious” will help to spread the fair trade message to ensure that producers get a fair price for the foods that they produce.
Why buy fairly traded products?
Faced with a choice of a cheaper supermarket product, customers often have to consider why they should pay a higher price for a comparable , but fairly traded product. That choice is always down to the individual, especially during the “credit crunch”, but here are a few reasons why we believe fair trade is the best choice for everyone:
• Fairtrade provides a better deal for producers in developing countries.
• Fairtrade ensures farmers and workers receive an additional Fairtrade premium to invest in developing their communities.
• Fairtrade enables farmers and workers in developing countries to
improve their communities and encourages environmental protection.
• By choosing fairly traded products , customers are guaranteed high quality, yet affordable choices which enable sustainable trade to strengthen and grow in developing countries.
